1998 - Brian Plummer introduced new blood to the Plummer Terrier

5th Generation pup from Brian Plummers last breeding programme.

Why?

After seeing numerous recent examples of registered pure bred Plummer Terriers, both in the flesh and on video. Brian Plummer decided that in order to correct the numerous faults that were constantly occurring within many 'pure lines' often bred. The terriers desperately needed an outcross in order to bring it back into line, this outcross would eliminate hereditary defects that have become so common and improve conformation, especially head size and bone structure.

Brian took on three pups - Bull terrier x Plummer Terrier (first generation outcrosses), Seven, Nine and Lucy, training all to an extremely high standard. The male pup "Nine" - was sent to be used as a stud dog. Standing at Legion Kennels of Plummer Terriers in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. Nine produced some outstanding second generation stock, including his son "Legion Mask" out of the beautiful and correct pure bred bitch Legion Red. Mask has proved himself to be invaluable in taking the breeding programme forward .

Ni9e, was originally leased to Spencer Gledhill, in order that he mated Spencer's pure bred bitch which carried a severe fault (luxating patella) (the bitch has since died). Spencer kept back a bitch pup from the union and to date, has shown no sign whatsoever of any faults being inherited.

Ni9e's litter sister “Seven” again trained, and owned by Brian Plummer, was sent to live with her litter brother on the Hebrides . Se7en whelped two bitch pups in her first litter, by the then resident stud dog, Coleville Jack (Inglebrae Ben) , one of these pups belonging to Les and Maryanne Rose, Yorkshire. She is featured on the video ' The Yorkshire Ratters', being a well known and prolific ratter.Se7en also produced the outstanding bitch, Legion Cleo sired by Legion Mask.

Lucy the third pup was sent to Lee Warren, NPG (New Plummer Generation) Kennels in Leicestershire. She was mated to Alan Dungworth's many times Plummer Terrier Champion " Sonatal Todd "(Stanhill Billy), the result of the mating produced a superb litter including NPG Alpha , although all the puppies from this litter grew to 15” or more.

However the Plummer Terrier Association failed to realise the importance of this outcross programme, choosing to disregard Brian Plummer's advise in order to improve and advance with the breed, disassociating themselves from him in 1998, when they expelled Brian Plummer from the PTA. This left Brian no alternative but to implement and create The Working Plummer Terrier Register, if the breed were to survive and flourish..
The register was set up in the year 2000, using a Plummer Terrier database as background information for the outcrosses and all other Plummer terriers of traceable ancestry to be registered.
All puppies produced from Brian's breeding programme are fully registered with The Plummer Terrier Club of Great Britain- est 2003.

New owners are encouraged to report back on each pups progress and join The Plummer Terrier club of Great Britain. This ensures that all information kept will be true and accurate, and all members are informed as to the clubs activities.
